Senior Investigator Fellowships

Supporting exceptionally talented senior clinical academics across our NHS partner trusts to develop their research and progress their clinical academic careers

Our Senior Investigator Fellowship Programme is dedicated to identifying and nurturing exceptionally talented senior clinical academics in and around the South West region who want to develop research grants and progress their clinical academic career. Fellows work between the NHS and University of Exeter and are embedded across our five core research themes, where they work in diverse research environments alongside world-leading academics and have access to state of the art facilities.

Medical, Nursing and Healthcare Scientist Consultants from across our partner trusts are able to spend one day a week conducting high quality translational research, immersed in a positive and inclusive research culture. Fellowships have been awarded to experts in Diabetes, Mycology, Neurodegeneration, Older Age Psychiatry, Rare blood diseases and Cancer.

Fellows have access to our leading research development support, leadership training and development through the NIHR Academy and our University infrastructure.

We are delighted to have already recruited our first cohort of Senior Investigator Fellows who are working across our research themes to progress translational research in their area of expertise.

For us as an NHS organisation, the clear benefit of NHS academic partnerships with universities is on outcomes for patient care. It’s also about access for colleagues and people working in healthcare to the latest thinking, research and evidence. The benefits this brings to people using the NHS and for us as an organisation is huge, helping us to recruit and retain high-calibre people, which really makes a difference.
