Suhel is a BRC-funded PhD student at the University of Exeter. His project, part of the Exeter BRC’s diabetes theme, will investigate rare genetic types of diabetes to identify genes essential for survival of insulin-producing cells. Whilst studying a BSc in Medical Sciences at the University of Exeter, he developed an interest in human genetics during his placement year at the Exeter genomics laboratory. To further Suhel's knowledge and understanding in this field, he pursued an MSc in Human Molecular Genetics at Imperial College London where he learned how various genetic approaches could be applied to better understand diseases such as diabetes. This experience inspired Suhel to continue his studies in human genetics, resulting in him joining the current project as a PhD student.
