PPIE Support

Helping researchers put people at the centre of their research

Why involve people in research?

Involving people and patients in research makes it stronger and more relevant to the people it stands to benefit. We can help you to involve members of the public in your research, meaningfully.

PPI Virtual Ideas Cafes

What are Ideas Cafes?

These cafes provide the opportunity for researchers to have an informal virtual chat with our public collaborators about early-stage research ideas and project outlines. They provide the opportunity to share ideas with patients and the public as well as practice in presenting to a lay audience.

How the meetings work

These cafés are split into 40-minute sessions. During this time, a researcher can present their research idea in a short 5-minute presentation, support slides optional, followed by questions and discussion of the idea with the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Group. This will include the group asking questions but also provide the researcher with the opportunity to ask questions or provide feedback on areas of the research.

How to book your place

Our Virtual Ideas Cafés are fully booked for this term, however, you can reserve your spot for next term by clicking on the preferred date and time below. A member of the team will then be in touch with further details and provide a Zoom link for the meeting.

Connection with public collaborators

We may be able to connect you with public collaborators to involve in your research, depending on the people you would like to involve. We have connections with different groups across the South West, and are building a list of public collaborators who would like to become involved in research.

Help us to help you by giving us plenty of notice to find and invite potential public collaborators, and be flexible with how and when public collaborators can support your research.

Grant development

If you’re planning a new research project and would like input into the design of the project, any supporting information, or into the application itself, please get in touch.

Our PenARC partners have developed an incredibly useful page full of resources to help you to better understand involvement, and to provide practical support for getting people involved.
