George is a Clinical Scientist working in Biochemistry at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. His research focuses on optimising the use of blood tests to improve outcomes and minimise the harms associated with testing. In particular, he is interested in how we can better target liver blood tests and appropriate follow-up. This is particularly important for patients with type 2 diabetes who regularly have liver blood tests and are more likely to have Metabolic dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD). George studied for a PhD at the UCL Institute of Neurology where he established a new blood test for the rare inherited condition AADC deficiency. He undertook postdoctoral research at the MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit in Dundee and then trained as a Clinical Scientist at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2023.
