Dr Joseph Butchart is a Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine and General Medicine at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Trust in Exeter, and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter Medical School. He also works for the Devon Memory Service (Devon Partnership Trust) at the Exeter Memory Clinic.
Joe is a Principal Investigator for clinical trials of new treatments for dementia, carried out in collaboration with research staff at the University of Exeter, Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Trust (RDUH), Devon Partnership Trust (DPT), and the MRC Clinical Research Facility in Exeter. His research interests include the effects of systemic inflammation and metabolic dysfunction on dementia, delirium and frailty, and new potential biomarkers and treatments for these disorders.
Joe completed his medical training at the University of Cambridge and higher medical training in Southampton. He completed his PhD research as a Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Southampton and moved to Exeter in 2014.
